New Music Monday 3/14: ALL TALK, WHO CARES?

We’re BACK! Welcome back to Music Monday. It’s been a while. This week we’ve got some highly anticipated releases and some fun returns. Let’s get this party back on track as we check out this week’s highlights.Β

Benny The Butcher- TANA TALK 4

Following his release of β€œJohnny P’s Caddy,” Benny The Butcher released his Tana Talk 4. It’s a great listen with Benny The Butcher really showcasing his lyricism as he flows over the beautiful tracks produced by none other than The Alchemist. I really enjoyed this album. Benny flowed beautifully on every track making all songs equally as enjoyable. The album is feature heavy with more than half of the songs having an artist featured on them, but this actually adds to the significance of the album with artists like Westside Gunn and Conway demonstrating their own lyricism.

Lil Durk – 7220

After a long time of anticipation and a delay, Lil Durk finally drops his new album 7220. This album is a very fun and usual Durk album. Containing a lot of the soulful and hard headed tracks. Durk does balance out the album with having each track having some sort of sentimental value. With topics discussing his independence, loyalty, tragedy, his great fullness for his success, and his determination to succeed. This album was pretty alright and now we wait for someone to use one of his lyrics as a caption.

Rex Orange County – WHO CARES?

Rex Orange County finally returns with his new album β€œWHO CARES?” This was actually my first time listening to an entire full length Rex Orange County album, but I have listened to a few songs. I’d like to say though, I was very pleased with this one. You can really tell that when listening to it, he matured a lot over the past few years. With very tragic and sweet songs like β€œAMAZING” and β€œMAKING TIME” really showcasing a change in style. But also showing his strengths by still leaving a lasting effect on the audience with his wonderful musical ability. Whether that’d be from his song writing, production, and most importantly his amazing voice. Rex Orange County continues to impress and I cannot wait for whatever he drops next.

Viet – 8/10

Favorite Tracks: β€œAMAZING,” β€œWORTH IT,” β€œOPEN A WINDOW,” featuring Tyler, The Creator, β€œMAKING TIME”

Megan Thee Stallion, Dua Lipa – β€œSweetest Pie”

We’ve got an interesting release here as we were given a collaboration between Megan Thee Stallion and Dua Lipa. My first impressions of the song: it’s pretty good. The song is catchy, very uppity, I can definitely picture it being stuck in my head for the next few days. As unexpected as it was, the duo of Dua Lipa and Megan actually did well. This track was produced very well and the beat is as bouncy as a pop song should be. The vocals sound amazing, I might add. The song is overall an alright listen, I have no complaints.

A$AP ANT – β€œTime Crisis”

In my opinion the most underrated member of the A$AP Mob, A$AP ANT continues to impress with his new single β€œTime Crisis.” The song starts building up with ANT going bar for bar flexing his success, and just showing off his stylish personality. He has a very unique way of rapping that makes him so addictive to listen to. This is just another one of his hard songs with a beat that cranks up the attitude. This is a great song and I can’t wait for whatever his next project is. Mainly because he never fails to improve and impress.

Madlib, Wildchild, Angelo Arce – β€œManifesting”

Friday we were given a taste of a collaboration between Mablib, Wildchild, and Angelo Arce. The three came together to create the track β€œManifesting,” and honestly it was underwhelming. I wasn’t impressed by Wildchild nor Angelo’s rapping abilities. Less than 30 seconds into the song I had the urge to skip it. I’m not very fond of the production either, Madlib has done way better in the past compared to what I heard on this song. I must I’m quite disappointed, and I expected more from these three. There is a slight possibility that the song can grow on me, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.
