Girls Track and Field is On Track to States!

Congrats to the Blake Girl’s Track and Field Team for winning the 2024 MCPS County Championship and scoring 3rd at the MPSSAA 3A West Region Championship! The team scored 75 points in the County Championship on May 10, and 86 points in the Region Championship Meet on May 17. 

At counties, Senior Brooke Cochran and Junior Senior Swangin each claimed individual titles for the 200m and high jump, respectively. Cochran also scored 2nd in the 100m and her sister, Freshman Hunter Cochran, scored 7th in the 200m. Students Jaayah (Lovey) Jenkins, Emilie Creighton, Halle Whern, and The Blake Beat’s Julianni Wyche also had scoring performances in counties. Additionally, Blake scored 2nd in the 4x200m relay and 3rd in the 4x400m and 4x800m relays. 

Juniors Jaayah (Lovey) Jenkins and Sierra Swangin led the Bengals in the MPSSAA 3A West Region Championship. Jenkins won the 400m and placed 2nd in the 800m, while Swangin won the high jump and scored in the long and triple jumps. Freshman Hunter Cochran placed 2nd in the 200m and Sophomore Chandler Bell placed 3rd in the 100m. Blake also took 2nd place in the 4×400 and 3rd place in the 4×800 relays. 

The Bengals will compete in the MPSSAA State Championship Meet this afternoon at 3 pm. We wish our Girl’s Track and Field the best of luck today!
