MCPS Update: 16 Schools have Entered Virtual Learning

On Jan. 18, MCPS sent out a community message informing MCPS students and families that 16 schools will be entering virtual learning beginning Jan. 20. Paint Branch high school and Briggs Chaney middle school were amongst the listed schools. They are said to be coming back to in-person learning Monday, Jan. 31.

This information came out after MCPS rolled back the 5% threshold rule they instituted before winter break after the results of this rule showed that more than half of the schools in MCPS had 5% of their students tested positive with covid.

Paint Branch high school and Briggs Chaney middle school are a part of the Blake community. This brings an uprise of questions such as: will Blake be the next school to go virtual? (since we had the 2nd most cases in the NEC) or if we are already in the process of being looked at for a future closure?

All we do know is that MCPS is finally taking responsibility and are looking out for our students and staff.
