Halloween 2026 costume predictions

With Halloween coming up soon, those who celebrate are debating over what they want to dress up as and planning their costumes. Considering people tend to gather inspiration from certain trends or films they have seen in the year, here are costume predictions for Halloween 2026 based on this year’s contributions to pop culture so far.

1. Nikki from Obsession

Nikki might actually be one of the biggest costumes this Halloween. Her red and black animal print top from Obsession has already been going viral, and people are recreating the look online. The outfit is recognizable, and does not require a lot of thought for the costume, and is perfect for anyone who wants to dress as a character people are actually talking about. With the movie’s popularity, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see Nikki everywhere on October 31.

2. Spider-Man

Spider-Man costumes are pretty much guaranteed to show up every Halloween, but this year could be especially big. With Spider-Man: Brand New Day bringing attention back to the character, more people might want to wear the classic suit. It’s also one of those costumes that works for pretty much any age, and there are so many versions to choose from. Whether it’s a full suit or a casual outfit inspired by Peter Parker, Spider-Man isn’t going anywhere.

3. Unicorns

I feel like unicorns deserve more attention because not everybody wants to dress up as a scary character or a celebrity. Pink, purple, rainbow, and glittery unicorn costumes are cute, easy to personalize, and perfect for anyone who loves fantasy. You could go all out with a colorful wig and sparkly accessories or keep it simple with a unicorn headband and pastel clothes. With whimsical aesthetics still popular online, unicorns could be a surprisingly common choice this year especially since they are trending this year with the unicorn frappe making a return in the summer.

4. Ladybugs and Bees

These two are classic Halloween costumes for a reason. Ladybugs and bees are cute, easy to recognize, and especially fun if you’re dressing up with a friend. One person can wear red with black spots while the other wears yellow and black stripes. They’re also easy to put together without spending a ridiculous amount of money. I could definitely see these being popular for people who want a simple costume that still looks adorable in pictures.

5. The Cat in the Hat Meme

Okay, this one is for the people who want to dress up as something completely unserious. The creepy Cat in the Hat memes that spread across social media in 2026 have turned the character into something very different from the children’s book character most people remember. The trend has inspired dark edits and jokes, making a Cat in the Hat costume a funny, slightly unsettling choice for Halloween. Just keep it as a costume and a joke rather than recreating the fake threatening videos that circulated online.

6. K-Pop Demon Hunters

This one makes so much sense for Halloween. The characters have colorful outfits, recognizable hairstyles, and looks that would be fun to recreate with friends. You could dress as Rumi, Mira, or Zoey, or coordinate with your friends and make it a group costume. Since the movie’s fandom has continued into 2026, I think people will still be choosing these characters this year.

7. Toy Story Characters

With Toy Story 5 arriving in 2026, Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and Jessie could be making a comeback. These costumes are recognizable even if someone only sees you for a second, and they work especially well for groups. Imagine showing up with your friends dressed as the whole Toy Story crew. It’s nostalgic without feeling completely outdated, which is probably why these characters keep coming back.

8. Y2K It Girls

The early 2000s aesthetic is still going strong, so don’t be surprised if people show up in flared jeans, colorful sunglasses, little shoulder bags, and iconic early-2000s-inspired outfits. Some people might recreate a specific celebrity look, while others will just make their own version. The best part is that you probably already own half the outfit. It doesn’t even have to look like a traditional costume to work.

9. Witches and Fairytale Princesses

Some people want the spooky side of Halloween, while others want an excuse to dress like they belong in a fairytale. That’s why I think witches, princesses, and magical characters will always have a place on this list. Black dresses and dramatic makeup work for a witch, while pink gowns, sparkly accessories, and tiaras are perfect for princess-inspired looks. You can make either costume completely your own, which is what makes them so fun.

10. Random Viral Memes and Inflatable Costumes

There is always going to be someone who shows up dressed as the most random thing imaginable, and honestly, those people sometimes have the best costumes. Giant inflatable outfits, weird internet characters, and whatever meme everyone is laughing at that week could all make appearances. Internet humor changes so quickly that a costume nobody is thinking about right now could suddenly become the thing everyone wants to wear by Halloween.

So, What’s Going to Be the Biggest Costume of 2026?

If I had to guess, Nikki from Obsession, Spider-Man, and the Cat in the Hat meme are some of the most interesting predictions because they connect to things people are already talking about. Unicorns, ladybugs, and bees are more timeless options for anyone who wants something cute instead of super trendy.

Of course, nobody can predict exactly what everyone will wear. That’s part of what makes Halloween fun. But if there’s one thing I know, it’s that by November 1, social media will be full of costume pictures, last-minute outfit ideas, and people realizing that somebody else had the exact same idea as them.
