Urbana Undone, Blake Claims Region Title
On Friday, Blake Football beat Urbana 16-6, advancing to the 4A/3A state semifinals and securing the first Region Championship in program history.
The Bengals stormed into this game 11-0 after beating Walt Whitman 35-7 last week in their first playoff game. Sophomore Nuvi Sama kicked a 44-yard field goal just before halftime to start the scoring. Junior Kirby Matson threw a touchdown to Junior Joey Faunteroy before Jeremiah Seaton ran for a score. Seaton and Junior Taj Kontosis both had interceptions on defense and with a strong second-half showing, the Bengals secured their spot in this week’s state semifinal.
Blake will host North Point High School in the State Semifinals this Friday, 11/24 at 2 pm. State Semifinal winners will advance to the State Championship, which will be held at the Navy-Marine Corps Stadium in Annapolis. Gates will open Friday at 1 pm for spectators; more information can be found on the MPSSAA website. Congratulations again to Coach Marshall and the Blake Football program on their success! Be sure to show up and show out on Friday for a historic Black Friday game for Blake Football!
