The Best Halloween Candies: Ranked

October 31 is fast approaching! Soon we will all be shoving our faces with chocolates, fruit-flavored gummies, and every delectable candy in between. Halloween is here, and it’s all about candy. However, because of COVID-19, going trick-or-treating may be unsafe and unhealthy. In these times, the only way to get candy may be to go to your local store and buy it yourself, and you might start wondering which type of candy to buy and consume while watching Hocus Pocus. Luckily, I have rated seven of the most popular candies for you.

7. Snickers

This candy bar has a mix of everything. It has peanuts, it has caramel, it has nougat, and most importantly, it has chocolate. The fun size version is the best option for anyone who wants a one-and-done taste. The major downside of this candy is that the sticky caramel and the large pieces of peanuts have a tendency to get stuck in your teeth no matter what. They’re also not great for your waistline as you can’t consume just one.

6. Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups

Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups are the perfect candy for people who want the sweetness of chocolate and the saltiness of peanuts . It is a simple, yet complex candy that people flock to buy . Unrelated to the flavor, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups have the best marketing of the seven candies. My two grievances with the candy are that the regular candies (not the unwrapped minis) and the peanut butter to chocolate ratio are both too large. However, they rank higher than Snickers because there are not large chunks of peanuts that stick to your mouth

5. Skittles

Skittles are everything a kid could dream of. They are colorful, they are sweet, they are sour, and they are small. They are perfect for grabbing a handful and shoving down your throat. However, they do hurt my tongue after I eat too many, and they will stain your hand if you hold them for a long period of time.

4. M&Ms

M&Ms are Skittles’ fraternal twin sister on the opposite side of the flavor spectrum. They are small, colorful, and chocolatey. They are everything a girl like me could ask for. The only reason why I have not ranked them at number one is because suddenly every time I’ve had a green or a blue M&M, it tastes like spinach, and candy SHOULD NOT taste like spinach.

3. Sour Patch Kids

I love Sour Patch Kids. It may be an unpopular opinion, but they are so good. I cannot even elaborate on my deep love for the artificial sour sugar that amazingly coats each bite.

2. Kit Kats

Kit Kats are amazing. They are spectacular. They are breathtaking, they are remarkable. It is surprising that just chocolate and wafers would place so high on the ranking, but Kit Kats deserve it. Maybe it is the pure remarkable flavor of this candy, maybe it is the way they are shaped into ideal-sized sticks, or maybe it is the way they crunch with every bite, but Kit Kats are perfect.

1.  Candy Corn

To help me write this, I convinced my dad to take me to our local grocery store and buy all of them so they could get a fair and refreshed ranking. While scouring the candy isle, I could not find candy corn. We almost left disappointed until I saw it sitting on the discount shelf.

Candy corn is the best candy to exist. I have no idea why this iconic fall treat  is strictly limited to Halloween. Why can’t there be little candy trees for Christmas or little marshmallow creme candy hearts for Valentine’s Day? I truly believe that this would make the world a better place. Candy corn is SO good.

___

There is my ranking of the most popular Halloween candy. It may be controversial considering that according to a 2016 Buzzfeed poll, 47% of people do not like candy corn, and that 3 out of my five family members consider Snickers to be the best, but their taste buds simply aren’t as evolved as mine and that’s that.
