All about the 2025 Grammys

The Blake Beat team came together to watch and review Sunday nights, Grammys 2025. The show had loads of noteworthy moments; amazing performances, questionable fashion choices, and a very obvious LA theme. Top stories of the evening included Kendrick Lamar and his record β€œNot Like Us,” sweeping the awards of the evening. Beyonce completed another accomplishment by winning β€œBest Country Album,” and her FIRST win for the most prestigious category β€œAlbum of the Year”. Other artists like Billie Eilish and Taylor Swift went away with not a single award, after having the best years of their career, streaming and milestone-wise. Writers from The Blake Beat spoke on the most talked about artists and fashion moments of the evening.

Host: Trevor Noah – Giselle Wyche

Trevor Noah hosted the Grammys for the 5th time consecutively, on Sunday night. He did a great job constantly reminding the audience to donate to L.A. fire relief and even cracked a few jokes about A.I., and how it could bring us a new β€œRhianna” album. Noah also dug at the Trump administration and teased big artists like Beyonce on how they can’t currently tour because β€œwe [America] can’t afford it with tariffs”. However, the highlight joke of the night was aimed at Taylor Swift’s β€œSwifties,” and their over-the-top behavior regarding records and people snatching Swift’s titles; in this case, if she won Album of the Year again, she would snatch her own.

Notable Winner: Kendrick Lamar – Samuel Lamboni

Lamar went 5/5 for every single nomination he received, all of them for the song β€œNot Like Us” which was a diss track – a song made to defame someone – making it a historical event for the Grammys. Opinions on these awards have been very split, with some saying that they were very deserved due to the impact of the song on people who previously hadn’t been rap listeners, and others saying there were better choices for the spots and that rap β€˜beef’ shouldn’t be given praise. Most however, believe that all the rewards were well deserved, as Kendrick Lamar is a world-renowned rapper with multiple classic albums and songs under his belt that still hold up today, with projects such as To Pimp a Butterfly, and good kid, m.A.A.d City being critically acclaimed. Kendrick’s impressive discography includes such iconic tracks as β€œYou Ain’t Gotta Lie (Momma Said)” and β€œSing About Me, I’m Dying Of Thirst”, along with amazing features on songs such as β€œWat’s Wrong” by Isaiah Rashaad, and β€œNostalgia” by Pusha T. With Lamar’s wins at the 2025 Grammys, β€œNot Like US” is now the most decorated rap song in Grammy history.

β€œNot Like Us” was nominated for and won the following:
Record of the Year

Song of the Year

Best Rap Performance

Best Rap Song

Best Music Video

Snubbed Nomine: Billie Eilish – Allyson Murphy

Billie Eilish was nominated for 7 Grammys while winning none of them. Her most recent album Hit Me Hard and Soft (HMHAS) was released in May of 2024 and reached over a billion streams off Spotify (becoming Spotify’s most streamed song of 2024) and her song β€œBIRDS OF A FEATHER” earned No. 1 on the Billboard Global. Almost every song in HMHAS went viral on TikTok, including BOAF (birds of a feather), LUNCH, CHIHIRO, WILDFlOWER, and THE GREATEST. Many Billie Eilish fans were disappointed with the outcomes of the Grammy after she didn’t win any. Although the artists that did win worked for it and deserved their reward, Billie Eilish was not recognized for how much work she put into her album after she made records with her song BIRDS OF A FEATHER (which was also performed at the Grammys). Billie Eilish was nominated for the following:

Album of the year: β€œHit Me Hard and Soft”

Song of the year: β€œBIRDS OF A FEATHER”

Record of the year: β€œBIRDS OF A FEATHER”

Best pop vocal album: β€œHit Me Hard and Soft”

Best pop solo performance: β€œBIRDS OF A FEATHER”

Best duo/ group performance: β€œGuess” remix by Charli XCX

Best dance-pop recording: β€œL’AMOUR DE MA VIE (over now extended edit)”

Numerous fans are upset and believe the Grammys were β€œrigged” and Billie Eilish was β€œrobbed” of her awards.

Stand Out Performance: Playboi Carti and the Weekend – Ean Ayuk

Carti made a surprise appearance during The Weeknd’s surprise performance at the Grammys. The duo performed the song β€œTimeless” from the latter’s new album Hurry Up Tomorrow. The Weeknd’s presence came as a shock to many, as the artist announced in 2021 that he would boycott the event following his criticism of the Recording Academy when his After Hours album received zero nominations. To many hip-hop fans, however, the bigger news was Carti.

Notable Red Carpet Fashion – Nicole Johnson and Ean Ayuk

Jaden Smith: Smith arrived on the red carpet in an interesting outfit. His hat was styled like a gothic scare house, which was a massive conversation on social media. His outfit was, however, something fresh and different, and not many people had seen anything like it before.

Chappell Roan: When Roan received her award for Best New Artist she wore something that looked out of a fairy tale book. It was a very magical moment to witness and it was a very different sense of style that not many are used to seeing on the daily. Chappell Roan went out of the norm with her outfit choices on Sunday night.

Doechii: With her Grammys debut, Doechii arrived on the carpet with a trendy and unique, grey and white long-sleeve dress. She paired her outfit with fresh nails and an interesting knitted design that fell down the back of her outfit.

Miley Cyrus: Cyrus decided to go for an all-black dress, with a split that elevated the debut of her new hair look. Miley Cyrus’s makeup was amazing and the look was perfectly selected to match her current music β€œera”.Β
