Abdoulieβs Local College Basketball Update
Here’s how our local college basketball teams are doing at this point in the season.
Team | Record | Current Status/vibe⦠recent performance | Tournament Outlook | Other info |
UMD Women | 18-6 | The team is on a six-game winning streak after beating Wisconsin 70-43. | I donβt see them being any lower than a 4th seed in the tourney | They have a date with National Player of the Year candidate Caitlin Clark and Iowa, then the rest of their schedule are all ranked opponents. |
UMD Men | 11-12 | The team isnβt looking good after losing to no.16 Ohio State. The team is having a poor season after its head coach resigned in the beginning of the season. | Right now, it looks like theyβd be lucky to get in. | The search for a new head coach will have to be addressed in the offseason. |
Georgetown | 6-16 | Things are looking horrid for the Hoyas after losing to DePaul. In the second half, they allowed a 26-0 run and David Jones for DePaul had a 20-point triple double. | I donβt think they get in. | Georgetown may not have double-digit wins for the first time since the 1971-72 season. Being 0-10 in conference play, Coach Ewing is definitely on the hot seat. |
Virginia | 15-9 | Unranked Virginia recently beat the 7th best team in the nation in Duke in Cameron Indoor. Things are looking up for the Cavaliers. | Hard to tell, but could definitely get in. | They finish their season with all unranked opponents, except for a rematch with Duke on the 23rd. |
