Philip PremDas Hits the National Stage

β€œDance is my language.”

That’s how Philip PremDas, a freshman here at Blake High School, described his passion. Philip, also known as Philly2Fly, started his first nationwide dance tour on Saturday, October 12. As a DMV ambassador, he will represent the dance culture of his hometown style nationwide. β€œI feel very excited and proud. I’ve worked hard to become a professional dancer,” he said. β€œI’m really looking forward to this experience and am excited about what the future holds as I continue to work hard and focus on my dance journey.”

From a young age, Philip has participated in many training sessions and classes to enhance his versatility and bring unique styles to his performances. He is known for his ability to freestyle and dance in various hip-hop and international styles. Philip has also trained with world-renowned choreographers including Josh Smith, Luther Brown, Les Twins, Luam Keflezgy, Amari Marshall, and Dexter Carr.

Some of his achievements include first-place wins in regional competitions, twice-winning National Championships, receiving scholarships at dance conventions, and being selected for the 2024 Monsters of Hip Hop show, β€œVision.” Philip is also a reigning teen champion at Freestyle Battles and two dance conventions in New Jersey and Chicago.

At Blake High School, Philip takes the dance class taught by Ms. D’Anna, who emphasizes how he brings movement to life. β€œPhilip is a talented, hard-working, focused student in the dance classroom. His improvisational skills are superior and what I love most is that he is always willing to help others” and help others perfect β€œtheir movement skills.”

Nyla Kaylie Thompson, a senior in the same dance class, said, β€œAs a dancer, he’s such a brilliant, outgoing firecracker. He’s so passionate in his craft and as a student. Being his classmate is truly a blessing.” She added, β€œGetting the opportunity to dance with Philip and learn from him has been so great and inspiring.”

β€œDance is everything to me. It’s my passion, it calms me, and it’s a unique way for me to express myself,” Philip said. β€œI’m dedicated to being the best dancer I can be. I believe success happens when preparation meets opportunity.”

Special thanks to Philip, Ms. D’Anna, and Nyla for taking the time to speak to The Blake Beat!
