Girls Indoor T&F Conquers Counties

The Girls Indoor Track and Field team is once again on a roll, winning the county championship. They ended up scoring 67: impressively outdoing Northwest by 3 points. The team had three first-place individual finishes and won the 4×400-meter relay, the fifth victory in the last six county meets. Blake has won that event more than any other team in county history.

The first athlete to mention is senior Brooke Cochran. She took first in the 300-meter dash, fourth in the 55-meter dash, and was also a member of the fifth-place 4×200-meter relay. Also running the relay were teammates Jaayah (Lovey) Jenkins, Chandler Bell, and Karen Abada. Junior runner Jenkins additionally won first place in the 500-meter dash, and was a member of the 4×4 along with Abada.

Junior jumper Sierra Swangin also performed well. The current school record holder in the high jump proved her status by placing first in the high jump with a height of 5’5.5. Swangin also placed 5th in the triple jump: jumping a personal record of 32’11.5. She also placed 8th in the long jump at 15’3.5.

Other notable runners are 4×4 members sophomore Simone Carter and junior Emilie Creighton, with Creighton also placing seventh in the 800-meter run. Both athletes were members of the 4×800-meter relay, which placed fifth (including runners Sophie Wisniewski and Sifen Tusse). Emilie Domond placed 7th in the shot put, throwing a personal record of 29’6.

Congratulations to the Blake Girls Indoor Track and Field team on your amazing county championship victory! This Saturday, the track team travels to Prince George’s Sports and Learning Complex for the 3A West Region Championship. Good luck Bengals!
