Blake Bengals Post Valentines Day Opinions
Valentine’s Day is a globally celebrated holiday that is intended for gift-giving, love, and satisfaction. There are many mixed opinions about the holiday, why it should be celebrated, and what its exact purpose is. Valentine’s Day is a holiday full of nostalgia for many. It’s a reminder of celebratory youth; like old times, when your elementary school teachers would throw class celebrations, and when the advertisements on the TV were filled with bright colors and positive affirmations. These memories feel like such a long time ago. Today, Valentine’s Day is still a key reminder of love and celebration. But also a reminder of those lost in people’s lives and the relationships people aspire to have. After a week of festivities, including an SGA spirit week and a three-day celebratory weekend, I spoke with a few Bengals about their thoughts and opinions on the holiday.
Sophomore, Trynice Knight, shared that Valentine’s Day is a holiday made up of βmaterial gifts,β that may fade. However, she says the holiday’s true meaning is, βthe memories and love shared that will last a lifetimeβ. Senior, Malaika Pierre, states that βValentineβs Day brings people together whether they hate or love the holiday.β Adding that people hate it due to the βewβ factor of couples, while those in relationships βcelebrate (Valentine’s Day) together.β Junior, Aleesia Simmons Duffin, thinks that Valentine’s Day is a nice change of βseeing people spread love instead of hate/violence.β While others like, Sophomore, Colby Brawner just βenjoy the free candy!β
These opinions are all centered around the theme of love and compassion, showing an overall positive Valentine’s Day experience for the Bengal community!
