Bengals Football Mid-Season Check-in

As the football regular season reaches its midway point, the Bengals are gearing up for another exciting homecoming game as they prepare for Springbrook High School tonight. Coming off a tough loss to rival Sherwood last week, Blake looks forward to bouncing back and adding another win to their 3-1 record against an NEC rival tonight.

When asked about the team’s improvement, wide receiver and team captain Kai Cooper spoke on the team’s attitude. He explained how the team’s mindset would sometimes falter last season, and how sometimes the team didn’t β€œbelieve we could win.” However, Cooper stressed how this season the mindset has changed, saying the team wants to win and ultimately β€œget to states no matter what,” and wants to be the β€œlast team standing.” With this frame of mind, the only thing that can stop the Bengals is themselves.

Last season, Blake football went undefeated in the regular season and ended the year 11-1, falling to North Point High School in the playoffs. Despite last season’s loss the Bengals have a lot to be happy about, especially getting off to the start they have this year. The team dominated almost every team they encountered last year, boasting an absurd point differential of +271. After defeating both NEC rivals in Paint Branch and Springbrook, and besting Sherwood in last year’s double overtime thriller, the Bengals should be proud of what they accomplished last season, and optimistic about this season. With a solid group of returning key players and transfers, the squad will have to fire on all cylinders to keep winning and make a run at states.

While Blake should undoubtedly be proud of last season, they didn’t achieve their ultimate goal: to win states. After last year’s taste of playoff success, the team is united in the mindset that they are more than capable of bringing a trophy back to Blake this season. With some key matchups and little turnover from last year’s roster, the Bengals are ready to go and compete.
