Pep Rally Roundup
Itβs one of the most exciting times of the year, Bengals! Lots of cool things have been happening at Blake, including our homecoming (HOCO) pep rally. After a shortened school day, students from each grade gathered in the stadium for the pep rally. The Blake Beat covered the festivities that went down.
The pep rally started with students sitting in four sections divided by grade level. Then, the SGA (Student Government Association) announced each fall sports team, allowing them to run out onto the stadium field and take photos. Mostly, the athletes were passionate about representing their sports, some even adding cool flips to their run out. Next up was a performance from the Roaring Bengals, our school marching band, and the color guard. They played Bye Bye Bye (by NSYNC) and a rendition of Mary Had a Little Lamb that incorporated drum player Sam Morris playing his instrument upside down.
After the marching band, the Blake Pom Squad danced to a mash-up of multiple songs. Cheer performed a stunning routine as well, which was full of stunts and flips! The pep rally also had its DJ, who tried to amp the crowd up by playing popular songs. After a quick music break, pre-selected students participated in a tug-of-war battle between classes. The freshman beat the sophomores after what seemed to be a match of equal strength. The juniors defeated the seniors by effortlessly dragging them across the blue mat. Staff members Mr. Kelley and Ms. Friday won the staff homecoming court nomination. Eden Threet, Jada Harris, and Cameron Lang were among the student court members.
Throughout the pep rally, The Blake Beat interviewed a few students. When asked how she felt about the pep rally, junior Jarin said, βI enjoyed it, it was very energetic!β She mentioned that βpeople are loud and participating,β which added to the environment of the pep rally. Saimah, a freshman on the flag football team, stated that the pep rally was βReally fun! I liked it when all the different teams came out!β Alesa, a sophomore cross-country (XC) runner smiled and said βWatching the games was my favorite part, and getting ready to run [out on the field]!β Senior Emilie, her XC teammate, also liked watching the tug of war, but criticized the fact that βthey forgot to recognize XC at first and everyone left.β Sierra, also a senior, said that she βdidnβt like how fast it was going.βΒ
Overall, the pep rally was a great school-wide activity! The Blake Beat commends the Blake administration and SGA for putting on an awesome event.
