Meet MCPS’ New Superintendent!
Over the summer, MCPS instated a new superintendent who emphasizes student well-being and equity.
Dr. Thomas W. Taylor was sworn in on July 1st, 2024, and will be serving a 4-year term. He was raised and educated in MCPS and has 25 years of experience as an educator and 6 years of being superintendent of Stafford County Schools under his belt.
His most famous attribute is his support for snow days as this video eloquently demonstrates. This is connected to his greater focus on student mental health and well-being. Some of the ways he hopes to achieve this are by implementing restorative justice practices, implementing more social-emotional learning, and taking data on student mental health around the county.
His secondary focus is on equal opportunities for students. He believes the basic needs of students must be met before any systemic change can be made. He wants MCPS to cultivate antiracist leaders, to directly engage with students and their families, and to harness data to inform their decision-making.
Dr. Taylor is an experienced administrator with connections to MCPS and is gearing up to have a productive 4 years.
