Finding Our New Principal: What’s Next?

The search is officially underway for a new principal at Blake, with a collaborative and community-focused selection process expected to wrap up by the end of June. The position was officially posted to the Montgomery County Public Schools website on the evening of May 22. Applications for the position were accepted for approximately ten days, with the window closing in early June.

The search is being led by district administrator Dr. Dodd, in collaboration with Blake staff, students, and our community. Staff Development teacher Mrs. DeLonga and our Administrative Secretary Ms. Duarte are serving as the school’s primary contacts throughout the process.

The first phase includes gathering input from the school community. A staff meeting, that was scheduled for June 2, included a survey designed to collect information on what qualities and attributes the school community would like to see in the next principal. A similar meeting for input from parents and students is expected to take place the following week.

Mrs. DeLonga noted she would “love to work with someone who values collaboration, someone who understands the needs of both students and staff [and] would love to see someone continue to grow the existing programs and bring new opportunities to Blake students as well.”

Once applications are reviewed, selected candidates will be invited to participate in a principal panel interview scheduled for later in June. The panel will include representatives from MCPS, as well as Blake parents, staff, and students, to ensure a broad and inclusive perspective in the decision-making process.

Following the panel interviews, two finalists will be selected for a final interview with Dr. Taylor, the superintendent, who will make the ultimate recommendation. The decision will then proceed to a closed session, where official appointments will be made.

Given that the process will stay on track, the new principal will be named by the end of June, allowing time for a smooth transition before the start of the new school year.
