Commanders or Ravens – Who does Blake Root For?

With both the Commanders and Ravens winning their respective wild card games, we are considering whether Blake is home to more Washington or Baltimore fans. But first, here’s a quick overview of each team:

Commanders:

After adding bonafide superstar Jayden Daniels in the 2024 NFL draft, the Commanders have taken flight, transforming their offense from the bottom of the league to one of the most potent. Daniels is flat-out electric, and he has brought back life to a dying franchise. While Daniels has taken the Washington offense to the next level, a vital reason for the team’s sudden evolution has been due to Head Coach Dan Quinn. He has revamped the culture in the building, leading to players buying in and playing for each other.

Commanders fans have witnessed a complete turnaround from their franchise, with the team achieving their best record since 1991, finishing 12-5. Season expectations were low entering the year, with most betting sites placing the Commanders at over/under 6.5 wins. They completely shattered these expectations, which is a good reason for lukewarm NFL fans to jump on the bandwagon. With young talent across the board, coupled with an eager and competent front office, Washington will have a fanbase that will continue to grow for years.

Ravens:

Ravens fans suffered a disappointing loss last postseason to the Chiefs in the AFC Championship, but this year, there is yet another strong playoff run in sight, as the team went 12-5 during the regular season. After beating the Steelers 28-14, Baltimore moves on to the divisional round where they are set to play the Bills. Although this will indeed be a good game, the Ravens have the upper hand by beating Buffalo earlier in the regular season by a decisive score of 35-10. If the Ravens beat the Bills next Sunday, they will move on to play either the Texans (who they previously blew out) or the Chiefs in what would be a highly anticipated rematch. If they win that, it’s a Super Bowl game for Baltimore, who could win their first championship in 12 years.

The Ravens have extreme depth on offense starting with quarterback Lamar Jackson. The versatile, soon-to-be four-time Pro Bowler has proven to be a dominant player this season, completing over 66% of his passes and throwing for over 4100 yards for 41 touchdowns, while only giving up 4 interceptions. Additionally, with a league-leading offense paired with a top-10 defense, the Ravens are destined for success this postseason.

Now – is Blake more of a Commanders or Ravens school? We sent out an Instagram poll and found that there are, in fact, slightly more Ravens fans at our school, as 58% of respondents voted for Baltimore and the remaining 42% voted for Washington.
