Blake Secures Win in First Playoff Game

Blake Football has once again marked school history as Varsity beat Walt Whitman 35-7 on Thursday, advancing to the state quarterfinals.

After a brief intermission due to Blake’s bye week, the Bengals played Walt Whitman at 7:00 Thursday night to determine which team would advance to the 4A/3A state quarterfinal round. Blake previously played Whitman this season for their season opener on September 2, beating them 42-0.

Blake is now 10-0 for the first time in program history, succeding last year’s record of 8-3 before the Bengals lost to Dundalk in the state quarterfinals. Kirby Matson threw for four touchdowns, and Taj Kontosis had three interceptions. Additionally, Blake recognized 16 Varsity Football seniors and 3 Varsity Cheer seniors last night prior to the game’s start for their dedication and hard work over the last four years.

The Bengals will play again next week against Urbana High School, advancing to the Semi-Finals if they win. Congrats to Blake Football and Coach Marshall on a great start to the postseason! Be sure to come out and support the Bengals next Friday!
