Will the DMV be Snowed In?
There are several inches of snow forecasted for the weekend in the DMV. Many residents are skeptical of the numbers predicted for this weekend. Many sources range from 5 possible inches to 24 inches. The most used weather tracking service, The Weather Channel, predicts 8-13 inches of snowfall Saturday night into Sunday. Apple Weather has some of the highest predictions from any weather app, forecasting 20-24 inches, nearly a foot difference between the two.
Weather services are amazing tools, but not always reliable. What do Blake students and teachers think?
25 students were interviewed. Here are their stats:
The lowest prediction came from Maxwell Holdsworth: three inches. βTheyβre always wrong. It only ends up raining anyway,β
The highest prediction came from Mr.Kunz, a physics teacher. He believes it will snow up to two feet, recalling a time when he was young, when it snowed so much he could jump off his roof onto a snowpile and walk away unscathed.
The general average is 11.94 in, a modest prediction and much lower than the forecasted 24 inches from Apple Weather earlier this week.
Aside from the predictions, Blake students report not only themselves but their parents getting ready for the possible snow. Studentsβ parents have been running back and forth to the store, leaving empty shelves.
January 23rd, at 12 p.m., the Safeway on New Hampshire was flooded. Cars filled the lot with shoppers in a frenzy. The meat aisles were vacant, there were no more microwave-ready foods left on shelves, and most importantly, the lines (for self-checkout and regular) were out of control. Panic shopping has fully set in for many members of the community.
In addition to how severe the winter weather will be, a main question on studentsβ minds is whether there will be a closure. β of the students asked believed there would be no school on Tuesday.
Prepare for a frigid weekend with temperatures reaching as low as 8 degrees. It is critical to stay safe and bundle up. Pick up your hats and gloves, grab your snow shovels and sleds, and enjoy the snow!
