What’s Popping with K-pop Club?

During the pep rally, we had a variety of wonderful performances, from the marching band to the cheer team, and what was arguably the best performance of the entire event by the K-pop club. They performed the song β€œDebut” (Mama’s Awards) by Katseye. They all agreed that β€œwe wanted to do something powerful, and I’m like, powerful and popular, like debut and the dance break.” The idea of performing β€œDebut” was from Jasmin. The rehearsals that took place for this performance to happen took β€œaround five or six days, and it was about three weeks.” Each rehearsal was about 2 hours, according to Haley.

Throughout the performance, many of them felt nervous but excited to be on the field. After all, it was their first time doing something like this. Jaden expressed that β€œI wasn’t like I was telling myself to do good, and not even the audience. I was a little bit nervous, but I, like, didn’t take them into consideration.” However, as they continued, they gradually forgot their nervousness and delivered an amazing performance.

They would love and plan to perform again at the next pep rally we have. Considering how much of a success they had at this year’s pep rally, they should definitely have another performance. But they’ve also thought about performing at other events outside of school and were invited to one!

But the insights of this club and what they have to offer might interest you even if you aren’t a K-pop fan. While their routine when they meet generally doesn’t change as they usually β€œwatch a music video that, like, discuss what’s going on. We talk about a few kpop releases, and then we’ll do some kind of either planning or so, like we’ve done events like decorating photo cards”, but this year they plan to do kpop karaoke, raffles, and sometimes they’ll have presentations.

Oftentimes, though, they tend to get into heated debates defending their favorite groups, and they would bash each other in the process. They all got into K-pop at different times, so some of them prefer the older groups while others prefer the newer ones. So they tend to get into these playful debates with one another; often, it’s Mr. Bonilla bashing the students, as he prefers the older groups.

It’s all fun and games, though, as they all highly recommend this club to others, as Nicol expressed that β€œ I just feel like we got to know many new people, and we hold, like, other relationships that we never really could have because of this club.” This club has helped them create and hold new friendships that mean a lot to them by being able to bond over an interest they all have in common.
