“Roaring” into 4A: Fall Sports 2025 Season Outlook
The Blake High School fall sports season is underway, with scrimmages and openers taking place at Blake this week. Let’s preview the fall season by examining key metrics from last season and gathering insights from some of the fall coaches and staff.
Varsity Football- Coming off a 9-3 record and Division Title last season, the Bengals face a new challenge as they transition into 4A sports. With several key starters graduating last spring, the team will rely on Benji Wilson, Anthony Jackson, DJ Queen, and Areef Comara to lead the team. Head Coach Marshall emphasized that the team’s motto for the year is “In It, to Win It.”
Flag Football- In its inaugural season last year, the Bengals posted a 3-5 record, with wins against Gaithersburg, Paint Branch, and Springbrook. This season, the team aims to build on last year’s successes, led by Junior twins Annie and Anna Smith. Anna Smith earned First Team All-County Defense at the rush position, while Annie Smith received All-County mentions at the running back position last season.
Field Hockey- After finishing 3-10 last fall, the Bengals return key starters, seeking to gain momentum in 4A competition this season.
Poms- Head Coach Ms. Terah Richardson outlined the team’s objective: “Our goal is to improve upon last season’s performance, as we strive to level up as a team.” This year’s Poms team is led by four-year members Kailey McRae, Rose O’Croinin, and Phoebe Prouty, who aim to maintain Blake Poms’ streak of placing at counties.
Cheer- The Bengals are set to perform at football games and show their “Blake Pride” this season. The fall will prepare the cheer team for their competition season approaching this winter.
Varsity Boys Soccer- With a 7-5-1 record last season, the boys’ soccer team enters the new season with confidence. Key players return, and the team is poised to make a strong showing in 4A competition.
Varsity Girls Soccer- After finishing with a 5-6-1 record last season, the girls’ soccer team seeks to make a statement this year. Successful preseason scrimmages have set the tone for a promising season.
Varsity Girls Volleyball- Looking to bounce back from a 4-11 record last season, the volleyball team returns key seniors who are determined to make their mark in 4A athletics.
Cross Country- Last season’s successes have set the stage for another strong year. Coaches Mr. Oxley and Ms. Satub return to lead a team with several new additions to the roster.
Golf- As defending Division Title champions, the golf team aims to maintain its winning form. Key match players Brody Matson and Nidiki Njenga return, hoping to lead the Bengals to another successful season.
Athletic Trainer Ms. Julie Tucker added some encouraging remarks for this coming athletic year. “My goal is to continue growing the sports medicine program at Blake while educating athletes on sports-specific prevention programs to help them through the season successfully.” Ms. Julie looks forward to another year of getting to know Blake’s athletes and coaches while providing the highest quality of care.
Thank you to Blake’s fall sport coaches and our athletic trainer, Ms. Julie, for providing input on this season. We wish Blake athletes and coaches many successes in their respective sports programs this school year!
