Ok, VBK!Β  Club Impresses with K-Pop Showcase

One Friday, May 29th, the VBK (Blake’s K-Pop club) held its first-ever showcase in the auditorium. The event was an overall success, with a total of 15 songs performed throughout the evening, plus three performances by three guest groups that were invited to dance in the showcase. The event also included raffle prizes, in which two winners won baskets filled with Korean snacks, and the last raffle prize winner won kpop demon hunter squishmallows.

The event itself wasn’t too crowded and was easy to get into, but the people who attended were very loud and supportive of their friends, often shouting their names when they were on stage performing. Most people were screaming and taking videos/photos of the performances, and it felt like a huge success for the dance group, especially considering this was the first time they put together something this big. Paul stated that β€œWe’re excited to come together tonight, and like, [to] show y’all how much like we’ve prepared for this.” The event showcased a variety of dances, from cute concepts such as β€œ123-78” by BOYNEXTDOOR, where the members dressed in pajamas, to more powerful choreography like β€œLalalala” by Stray Kids, showing how versatile the performers are in switching concepts.

The first song the VBK performed in the fall pep rally, β€œDebut”, included the majority of the dance group. Then they danced β€œDrama” by Asepa, which included the four members Jaden, Haley, Jasmin, and Lauren. The members dressed in black clothing as their theme.

Right after a brief intermission, which allowed some of the members to quickly get dressed for the following dance, they danced β€œDumb Dumb” by Red Velvet, which included the members Sophiya, Favour, Jasmin, Haley, and Amy. Each of them dressed in singular representative colors: Sophiya in yellow, Favour in purple, Jasmin in green, Haley in blue, and Amy in pink. The choreography for this song had a cuter concept as well as included a moment where the members took out matching color sticks.

Next, they danced to β€œI Don’t care” by Baby DONT Cry, which included the members Sophiya, Haley, Jaden, and Jasmin. Haley’s and Jasmin’s clothing were mainly white with red highlights, while the leaders, Jaden and Sophiya, dressed in singular colors. Jaden dressed in red while Sophyia dressed in white. Right after, they immediately began to dance β€œR U Ok?” by Ifeye, which was the song the group performed for the Spring Pep Rally. The same members who danced β€œI Don’t Care” stayed to dance this song, with the addition of two more members, Miley and Amy.

Right after their performance, a guest dance group from Walt Whitman High School got on stage and performed 404 (New Era) by KiiiKiii. They ended Act One with the song they performed for the Winter Pep Rally, β€œLalalala” by Stray Kids. This dance included the majority of the members of VBK.

The start of Act Two began with a duo dance featuring the leaders, Jaden and Sophiya. They performed β€œMEEEEEE (NAYEON)” by Nayeon from Twice. They both dressed in formal black attire and had some back-and-forth moments where they individually got to shine.

Then another guest group was welcomed on stage, Montgomery College performed β€œBack to Life” by &TEAM, with the members dressing up in casual street attire.

Afterwards, we had our two solo performances for the leaders Jaden and Sophiya. Jaden performed β€œXOXZ” by IVE, while Sophiya performed β€œMove Like That” by Momo, with Jasmin, Miley, and Lauren as backup dancers.

Watkins Mill High School performed after the two solo acts, and they performed β€œChili” by HWASA X SFW2, with the members incorporating red accents in their outfits. While the choreography for β€œChili” was captivating, the next song performed by the VBK, β€œ123-78” by BOYNEXTDOOR, was more dollish and dainty. The members were all dressed in golden silk pajamas. The members who performed this song were Paul, Rose, Sophiya, Favour, Lauren, and Amy.

After that, they performed β€œCatallena” by Orange Caramel, where the same theme of pajamas, but they added a small poofy skirt underneath. This song heavily trended during 2023 through 2024, where people would include the best screams for the song. This song was performed by Jasmin, Sophiya, and Haley. And to conclude the showcase, they ended with β€œSecret Story of the Swan” by IZ*ONE. All of the members of VBK danced in this song, and they wore matching shirts that included β€œVBK” on them.

The event was filled with amazing dances put together by everyone who performed and showcased their dancing skills excellently. They were also able to change outfits quickly and not waste too much time after the host announced the song. There’s a potential for this to happen again next year if a good number of people join again next year!
