Winter Check-in with VBK
After six years, Blake held a winter pep rally on December 19th. With fun games like snatching wigs and musical chairs. We had performances from the Latin elites, a combined performance featuring cheer and poms, as well as the VBK dance group.
The VBK has performed previously for Blake during the fall pep rally with the song βDebutβ by Katseye; this time, they performed βLalalalaβ by Stray Kids. Originally, though, βwe started with ‘Back Doorβ, but then somehow βLalalalaβ got into the mix.β But they were also thinking about performing βLoco,β but βwe’re originally, like, around five members since we lost three people to M.C.β As well as other members being busy with finals. In the end, though, their group expanded to include four more members, and thatβs when they decided to perform “Lalala.”
It took them longer to learn this dance compared to when they learned βDebutβ. βDebutβ took them 5-6 rehearsals, with it taking two weeks overall. βLalalaβ took them a month with 11 rehearsals. The process of preparing for the winter pep rally was βreally hard and frustrating. Although we had more time, it was just like, really, a lot of people were more stressed out.β So when asked, the majority of the performers agreed that they preferred the fall pep rally performance over the winter pep rally.
Almost all the members felt nervous, but more intensely compared to the fall pep rally. Considering all the good things they heard from their previous performance, βmany people said it was like a really good performance. So we wanted to, like, put on another good one.β Haley, who is one of the performers, was sick that day as well. During session two of the pep rally, Jasmin felt shocked to hear the audience sing along to the song.
Despite all of this, they enjoy doing these dance covers and performing for others. Jasmin expressed that βwhen I joined, I was really excited, because I really wanted to do, like, some sort of dance, and it also helped me make a lot more new friends.β
If Blake were to have a spring pep rally, they would love to perform for us yet again, even if they lose their heads in the process. They would want to perform a Twice song, but would repeat a dance cover from an event that theyβre preparing for, as βwe wouldn’t have time to practice for anything.β The event that theyβre preparing for is the Lunar New Year festival that will happen in February.
Other dance covers that they wish to perform are from groups like P1harmony, Twice, Illit, and Iz*one. Specifically βStrategyβ and βThis is forβ from Twice, βBillyeoon Goyangi (Do the dance)β by Illit, and βFiestaβ by Iz*one.Β
Although they donβt have a specific answer, they would want to attempt to learn a song with difficult choreography. Groups like Enhypen and Exo, where the members tend to get on the floor at some point. Or they would want to try a song with hard foot choreography.
Lastly, for fun, here are some of the members’ ultimate groups and their bias within those groups! For Jasmin, her ultimate group is Twice, with her biases being Sana and Momo. Jadenβs ultimate group is Ive, with his bias being Yu-jin. Haleyβs ultimate group is Nmixx, and her bias is Jiwoo. Favorβs ultimate group is Ateez, and her bias is Min-gi. While often not considered K-pop, Laurenβs ultimate group is Katseye, with her biases being Manon and Lara.
