Bengals vs. Vikings II: Inside the 4A State Championship Game + Whitman Matchup
Blakeβs boys’ basketball team is going to the state finals tomorrow night, March 14th. The Blake Beat only thinks itβs right for people to get to know some information about the opposing team, Walt Whitman, and their basketball team.
Walt Whitman High School is based in Bethesda, MD, with about 2,042 enrolled students, slightly larger than BHS. With one teacher for every 17 students. Although their mascot, the Vikings, has some controversy (one article from the Black and White opting out of the mascot in favor of βThe Bards”), that was a brief argument, and the Vikings remain today.
Whitmanβs boys’ basketball team is led by Coach Chris Lun. There are a few notable players as of recently. Senior Bobby Zedak, who led Whitman in the state semi-finals against the Flowersβ Jaguars, scored 25 points and had 4 steals. Junior Max Williams scored 17 points along with five assists in the same game.
Whitmanβs current record is strong, sitting at 23-4, compared to Blakeβs 24-3 (with only one loss to an MCPS team). As of recently, Whitman defeated Flowers 69-62 in the state semi-finals. This means the Vikings are heading into the state championships on a four-game winning streak. To note, two weeks ago, Blake handed Whitman their second defeat of the season, falling 67-55 in the MCPS County Championship.
Whitman and Blake are now matched up again, this time in the state finals, where the winner takes all. Be sure to attend on Saturday, March 14th. If youβd like to see which team takes all, you can purchase a ticket now on GoFan
