Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch is a 2018 3D computer-animated Christmas comedy film directed by Yarrow Cheney and Scott Mosier about the green, revenge-seeking Grinch who plans on ruining the Christmas holiday for the citizens of the town Whoville.
Benedict Cumberbatch plays the main character, the Grinch. Cameron Seely plays Cindy Lou Who, a little girl of Whoville. Rashida Jones, as Donna Lou Who, plays the single mother of Cindy. Kenan Thompson, as Bricklebaum, is a citizen of Whoville filled with happiness. The rest of the cast mostly includes Cindy’s friends.
For the most part, the movie felt comedic, using phrases such as, “Oh sugar plum.” The younger group of kids would enjoy this Christmas movie with characters flying through the air. If you are older, you might not find it as hilarious, but the movie can still make you giggle.
Being a musical, the film did well with the soundtrack. The setting was well developed with lots of snow and lots of bright lights. There were scenes where you would see a variety of Christmas foods. Overall the film made you feel the Christmas spirit.
This movie goes more into who the Grinch is and why he is the way he is, which is grumpy and rude towards others. For example in the original Grinch movie (1996), Grinch is rude towards his dog. In this film, grinch treats his dog with kindness. Treating his dog with kindness shows the real Grinch.
The film shows that kindness, compassion, love is the true meaning of Christmas. It encourages everyone to be selfless, see the good in friendship and community. It shows how one person, one moment of kindness, can change even the hardest heart.
At times for the older group, the film can make you sleepy, but for the most part it’s filled with entertainment and I would recommend this film to others.
