Blake athletics department welcomes junior varsity softball Coach Ali Krizmanich for this upcoming spring season, who hopes to prepare the players for the varsity level and perhaps the college level.
Coach Krizmanich brings in a lot of experience and knowledge of the game, however, this will be her first year as a head coach and also her first year as a high school coach. Coach Krizmanich grew up playing softball, playing for four years on a varsity level at high school, and going on to play for the club team at West Virginia University.
As far as coaching experience, coach Krizmanich says “I worked at camps for young kids over the summer… I helped coach my sister’s team, and for one school year I was the president of the club team at West Virginia.”
With coaching the junior varsity age group, it is a fact that not all of the players will have a high talent level, and some of the players will be first year players. Coach Krizmanich says that it will not be a problem for her because she has dealt with coaching the same age group while being an assistant coach for her sister’s team.
Blake High School is also nothing new to coach Krizmanich, as she attended Paint Branch High School. Throughout high school, playing against Blake was always the big rivalry game. Coach Krizmanich adds “it is really different being at Blake, but everyone here has been so welcoming… I like it so far!”
Coach Krizmanich’s prefers a simple approach to coaching. Coach Krizmanich says “I play my best nine but if someone is not giving 100% effort, they will come out of the game and I will put someone in who really wants to play.”
Coach Krizmanich has become familiar with some of the players who will be trying out for the Spring 2018 junior varsity softball team. Although she is not allowed to help the players at the moment, she goes to watch their workouts every Saturday.
Freshman Lana Lee will be trying out for this Spring 2018 junior varsity softball team. Lee is looking forward to learning new skills from coach Krizmanich. Lee says “I hope that the coach will be able to help me rebuild up my skills because this is my first year playing in a while.”
Athletic director Jared Fribush was looking for high qualities while searching for a new junior varsity coach. Mr. Fribush says “I was looking for an energetic coach who is good with skill development… Someone to get some players ready for the varsity level.”
As far as coach Krizmanich’s goal for this Spring 2018 season, she says “I just want everyone to have fun!”
