Best Black-owned Restaurants in Silver Spring

It’s time to take a break from some of our well-known restaurants in the area and start trying some new ones. We should show our appreciation for some of the Black-owned restaurants in Silver Spring. There are many different restaurants in the area that offer vegan and vegetarian options. Some also offer dine-in, curbside pick-up, and/or delivery. Here is a list of some Black-owned restaurants in Silver Spring that will satisfy all your cravings for breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert.

All Set: Located in Montgomery Center. All Set is mainly known for seafood on their menu, but they also have other options like burgers and salads. The restaurant decor is New England style, and the place is so nicely decorated. Most people who have been to the restaurant recommend their crab mac and cheese. This would be the kind of restaurant to go to when you want a nice dinner or lunch. The restaurant offers outdoor seating. They do curbside pick-up, delivery and dine-in. 

Rahama African Restaurant: Located at Maryland Farms 11454 Cherry Hill Rd. They only do delivery, curbside pick up and takeout. But no worries, you can still enjoy the food just as good in your home. They have African dishes that are sure to satisfy. Some of their popular items on the menu are Regular Fufu, Waakye, and Jollof Rice with Salad. They are best for lunch or dinner takeout. 

Kefa Cafe: Located at 963 Bonifant St. This would be the place to go if you’re looking for breakfast or brunch. They offer a variety of coffees and espresso, with breakfast food and sandwiches as well. Inside the restaurant they have a small art gallery. Overall the place seems cozy and so good for morning and afternoon brunch. Unfortunately, they only offer take out right now, no dine-in or delivery. 

Now for our vegetarian and vegan folks, you have not been forgotten. Here are some great Black-owned restaurants in Silver Spring that have many vegetarian and vegan options so you can also satisfy those cravings. 

Beteseb Restaurant: Located at 8201 Georgia Ave. This restaurant has traditional Ethiopian dishes and imported Ethiopian wine. The restaurant is family-owned. They offer outdoor seating. The restaurant does dine-in and curbside pick-up, delivery and takeout. It has amazing reviews and most people who go tend to order the Ye Bere Tibs and the Veggie Vegetarian Combo. They are mainly known for their lunch and dinner items on the menu, but they also have breakfast, too. 

Hakuna Matata Grill: Located at 2405 Price Ave. The restaurant has unique and affordable vegetarian options, as well as vegan options. The vegetarian options are the Hakuna Matata Salad, Katogo and the Veggie Sampler. Many reviews talk about the great service, and how tasty and authentic the East African food is. The place also has outdoor seating. The food is prepared by Chef Paul β€œSmokey” Ofwono. They do carryout, delivery and dine-in.

Islands Tropical Ice Cream: Located at 9324 Georgia Ave. They have ice cream, shakes,  sundaes and smoothies. They also have a few food items like Jamaican patties and empanadas. They don’t just have your basic ice cream flavors; they have refreshing, exciting tropical flavors you can try, such as coconut, guava, passionfruit, ginger, lychee and the list goes on and on. Many people were impressed by the unique variety of ice cream flavors, so this community staple is worth a try. The restaurant does in-store shopping, in-store pickup, and delivery.
